The website is designed to provide a one-stop source of information for those exploring careers in early childhood and school-age programs as well as those already working in the field and looking to advance in their careers. It also contains information that supports the efforts of program directors and others to improve the quality of their programs.

The website needed to provide very different information to distinctly different audience groups from teenagers considering a career in childcare to highly educated program administrators. To meet this unique challenge a vertical navigation system was employed where all sections are available from the homepage but there is very little cross-sectional navigation at secondary levels. Three sections are database-driven so that visitors can find education and training programs in their area, addressing specific skills. An innovative standards comparison tool was built so administrators can quickly view applicable sections of multiple standards by topic and sub-topic. Each database has administrative tools for non-technical staff to edit, add, and delete items as the Council receives new information.

In 2015, the public area of the website was converted to run in Concrete 5, a content management system. This allows staff at the Council on Children and Families to manage all the web site content.
